Need to boost traffic to your website but stuck for ideas or insights? Support your SEO strategy with evidence by using SEO tools to garner valuable keyword and statistical info.

Here are three tools you can use to improve your SEO.

1. Social Animal

Social Animal is a content marketing tool you can use in your everyday content creation to improve your SEO rank. It does so by applying natural language processing (NLP), which we know better as ‘conversational search’. NLP helps computers derive meaning from ‘human’ language in order to search for and rank the most useful and relevant information in response to a user’s search query.

Social Animal will return keyword search results for:

  • shares
  • main keywords
  • the number of words
  • influencers
  • hyperlinks

You can also use Social Animal to compare two articles and see what common – and unique – keywords each of the articles feature. You could do this between your own content, for example when one piece performs better than another. This way you can see which keywords your audience are most attuned to and implement them to rank better in search results.

Or, if you’re just after some quick wins, use Social Animal to find the most relevant keywords, word counts, shares, and content types to your industry. While researching and planning content for a blog or web page, you can use Social Animal to garner valuable insights.

2. BuzzSumo

Similarly, BuzzSumo is an SEO tool that provides search results for articles, infographics, and other types of content that are trending across all social channels. This can give you an idea of what your audience and potential followers prefer to read and share by helping you to:

  • clarify target personas, traffic, brand awareness, leads, engagement
  • decide the forms of content that will engage your target audience
  • decide on the balance of original and curated content
  • plan and produce a content calendar.

Use this information to curate articles either by sharing from BuzzSumo or by using BuzzSumo insights to create the kinds of content being read and shared by your target audience. The ‘Content Analysis’ tab in BuzzSumo will give you an overview of what is working for a particular topic or site, for example, which content formats work better and the ideal content length for your target audience.

3. Screaming Frog Spider

The Screaming Frog Spider is website crawling software that you can use to automatically ‘crawl’ your entire website to check links and validate your HTML code. What the Spider tool returns after it’s finished crawling is basically an index including:

  • an analysis of your page titles and metadata
  • duplicate content
  • sitemap of your website
  • broken links and redirects.

You can export this index to Excel and use this data as a basis for finding ‘holes’ in your website’s SEO strategy, before improving your site’s SEO based on what you find. The Spider tool is great if you’re already established a website and are looking to improve what you have, or if you’re wanting to do a website audit in preparation for a redevelopment.

Of course, these SEO tools are – and should – be part of an overarching content strategy. They are best used to plan the details of how and when you’ll use different kinds of content to win over your audience.
